Is IVPN a good VPN in 2026?

IVPN is one of the most privacy focused VPNs you can buy. It has run since 2009 under the same owner, asks for no email address at signup and publishes open source apps for every platform. It also tells you plainly what a VPN cannot do, such as making you anonymous or stopping Google from profiling you.

The trade off is a smaller network and weak streaming support. If you mainly want to watch foreign Netflix libraries, our best VPN list has better picks. If you care most about who you are trusting with your traffic, IVPN is near the top of the market.

Privacy and logging policy

IVPN's privacy policy is unusually specific. It lists every database field it stores and explains why. When you sign up you only get a random account ID, and you can pay with cash, Monero or Bitcoin.

  • No traffic, DNS or bandwidth logs
  • No connection timestamps or session durations
  • No customer IP addresses stored
  • Only a temporary record of active sessions to enforce device limits, deleted on disconnect
  • Accounts and linked data are deleted 90 days after a subscription ends, or instantly on request

The company is IVPN Limited, registered in Gibraltar and 100% owned by founder and CEO Nicholas Pestell. The team is 10 people across six countries. IVPN also closed its affiliate program and does not pay for reviews, which is rare in this industry. For a larger no logs service from Switzerland, see our Proton VPN review.

Security, audits and encryption

IVPN commits to annual independent security audits and has booked Cure53 for each one since 2019. The eighth audit ran over two weeks in July 2026. Instead of a one time "no logs" stamp, each audit targets the systems that changed most that year.

In August 2026 IVPN disclosed a security incident on its self hosted Bitcoin payment server. A critical BTCPay Server flaw, exploited before public disclosure, let an attacker steal Lightning node credentials and move 0.6168 BTC of IVPN's own operating funds. IVPN says the VPN network, customer data, accounts and customer funds were not affected, and it patched the server the same evening. The quick, detailed write up matches its transparency record.

Servers and network

IVPN runs 89 gateways in 58 locations across 41 countries, hosted with 17 data center partners. Every gateway is a bare metal server: no shared VPS and no virtual locations, so the country you pick is where the hardware really sits. That is small next to the thousands of servers in our NordVPN review, but every location is honest.

Speed and performance

With WireGuard on every server, speeds on nearby locations are strong enough for HD video, calls and large downloads. Independent reviewers report good results close to home, with more latency on long distance routes because the network is small. Multi hop and obfuscation add extra delay, so keep them for when you need them.

Apps and features

IVPN has open source apps for Windows, macOS, Linux, iOS and Android, plus a Linux CLI and router or NAS setups. The apps are clean and give advanced controls without clutter.

  • AntiTracker blocks ads, trackers and malicious domains with configurable blocklists
  • Split tunneling on Windows, Linux and Android
  • Trusted Wi Fi rules to connect automatically on unknown networks
  • SOCKS5 proxy for app based tunnels
  • Pause VPN with automatic reconnect, except on iOS

Higher tiers add Mailx email aliases, modDNS filtering and Portmaster Pro, an application firewall for Windows and Linux. IVPN says these services authorise access without receiving your account ID, a design it calls Unlinked Access. Desktop users can compare more options in our best VPN for PC guide.

Streaming and torrenting

IVPN runs no dedicated streaming servers and does not try to beat platform blocks. Some services work and some do not, and results change over time. If streaming is a priority, our Surfshark review covers a stronger unblocker. For torrenting, IVPN's no logs policy and kill switch help, but it does not offer port forwarding, which can slow seeding.

Value for money

IVPN is not the cheapest VPN, but you pay for audited privacy rather than discounts and upsells. The Standard plan covers 5 devices and includes multi hop, and Pro Suite raises the limit to 10 devices. A 30 day refund window lets you test it first. Budget shoppers may prefer the deals in our ExpressVPN review comparison.

Customer support

Support is handled by IVPN's own staff through email and a self hosted help desk, with no third party chat tools. The knowledge base and privacy guides are detailed and honest. There is no 24/7 live chat, so replies can take longer than with larger rivals.
